‘Cornwall’ by Tayo
Overview of musical composition
1st Movement: 0 to 1:20= Intense sadness that comes from leaving one's home to a new place and the anticipation that comes with starting something new.
2nd Movement: 1:20 to 2:05 = Immersing oneself in the new environment, creating new experiences and forging new memories with new friends.
3rd Movement: 2:05 till end = Being comfortable and confident in this new environment and the point where one is fully expressing oneself without being afraid.
Cornwall means a fresh start for me. I came here in a blank state and I have been painting my canvas with nothing but good memories.
I’d already made up my mind to immerse myself into the community before coming here so the first thing I did was find my tribe. My process involved finding like-minded people regardless of their background and being open to new cultures. It has been exciting and eye-opening for me but beyond that, I also started a podcast where I interview folks in the community doing exciting things so that is another way of meeting people.
Home is where you make it…. Do I feel connected to Cornwall at this stage? I can’t give a definite answer, but so far, I have had more positives than negatives and I’d like to keep it that way. I do acknowledge the elephant in the room (being a black man) but I never let that solely determine my destiny.
